The wood is a very sturdy, hard rubber wood. The preassembled parts including dowels are solid. The hardware is hefty. When the pieces are put together they is no wiggle room. Everything is solid. To see what the colors really look like see my attached image on the product page. The black is a true black, not like amazon's funky photo. The cottage oak is a nice warm medium brown. The stool is very comfortable. The bottom of the legs already have plastic gliders on them as well.

I bought two of these stools to match my cottage oak kitchen table and buffet. They fit nicely beside my buffet and don't take up as much room as extra dining chairs. They were relatively easy to put together as I did it myself. I am pleased with my purchase and do recommend product.

After searching the large furniture stores for stools for a kitchen center island, I was thoroughly disappointed. Expensive, poorly constructed and not at all attractive. Took a chance and purchased these and couldn't be happier. Well finished, easy to assemble... they're great. A real bargain!
